Veterinary Clinic Vinohrady started its operation on 1.4.2018, when it smoothly continued its operation to the defunct Veterinary Clinic Galeé. After the dissolution of the Galeé association, which MVDr. Procházková co-founded in 2010, MVDr. Procházková now became the sole owner of the VetVin Veterinary Clinic in Vinohrady. This clinic builds on the existing concept of superior care for small animals with a focus on feline medicine.

Due to the anatomy of the skull, the size of the eyeball and the formation of the eyelid fissure, brachycephalic dog breeds can be expected to have a higher incidence of ophthalmological problems than other patients. Here we will review the most common of these.

From our point of view, yes. There are a large number of free-living cats in the territory of Prague and its surroundings, which are still actively transmitting infectious diseases such as panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, caccivirus and many others. When vaccinating domestic animals, we are particularly interested in panleukopenia, which is highly infectious and still more than 85% fatal if treatment is initiated late. A household cat can also become infected indirectly through contaminated clothing or footwear. For this reason, we recommend vaccination with the core vaccine annually.
Up to 3 months of age it is good to deworm every 14 days, up to 6 months of age it is recommended to deworm every month. There are several reasons for such frequent deworming: some parasites can be transmitted in the mother’s uterus or through the mother’s milk and the pups are constantly exposed to parasites. Another reason is that by 6 months, the immune system of the gut is very weak and the organism cannot effectively defend itself against parasite infestation. The fact that most deworming products only work for 24-36 hours in the digestive tract and are only able to kill the adult stages of the parasite, while the eggs and larvae remain in the digestive tract and can continue to develop. Frequency of deworming is important to break the potential developmental cycle of the parasite and prevent re-infestation with adult parasites. It is also advisable to rotate the different deworming groups during this period to avoid resistance to a particular type of active ingredient and to ensure that deworming is effective.
For deworming from 6 months of age, it depends on whether you feed only commercially processed food, or whether you also use BARF or RAW food, or whether your cat hunts.
When travelling abroad (especially when travelling to countries south of the Czech Republic), we recommend to protect against heartworm disease with a product with a depot effect for the entire duration of the trip.

We recommend protection against external parasites all year round, as fleas can catch your pet outside even in winter. Exceptionally, an indoor cat can also become infected, as flea eggs can be brought home on shoes, clothing, etc. The tick season then lasts from approximately February to November. Outdoor parasites can be carriers of other parasites or other more serious diseases such as Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis and therefore pet protection should not be taken lightly. There are several types of products that protect against blood-sucking parasites. These can be pipettes or repellent sprays. These products are usually effective for a month and if they have a repellent effect, the parasite should not even appear on the patient. It depends on the type of pipette – those that guarantee a repellent effect stick to the sebum layer of the skin and the downside is that if you have to bathe your pet with shampoo, you will reduce the effectiveness. You may also come into contact with the product irregularly. Anti-parasitic collars work on the same principle, they release the active ingredient into the skin and must not be taken off to work properly. The collars usually last a season of 7-8 months. With pipettes, care must always be taken to ensure that you do not, for example, give the cat a dog pipette, otherwise fatal intoxication can result. The last option is to give tablets. Tablets do not have a repellent effect, they are absorbed into the bloodstream and protect your pet so that if the parasite bites into the skin, the effect of the tablet will kill it from the bloodstream. Thus, bathing has no effect on the effect of the product, and also the human does not come into contact with the active substance. It depends on the type of product – for example, there are tablets with an effectiveness of 1-3 months.

For dogs, it depends on the breed – for giant breeds we recommend screening from the age of 4, for large breeds from the age of 6, for medium and small breeds from the age of 8. For cats, screening is recommended from 8 years of age.
For acute patients, we are available throughout office hours, but will ask you to call ahead so we can prepare for you. For non-acute cases, but elective procedures and preventative care, we always recommend making an appointment in advance to keep your wait time to a minimum.
